The Return and the Way Forward

Welcome (back) to Dryvetyme Onlyne.

I’ve been writing for a very long time and for a wide variety of publications. Some outlets have been print, but most have been online. I worked as a near full-time music blogger from 2006 to 2011. That blurry featured image up there? That’s the header image for my original blog. But even after I got a full-time job in content marketing, I still managed to write music reviews on the side every once in a while.

So, on my 20th anniversary year of becoming a Z-list critic, I decided to reboot a classic Web 2.0 blog. I might even launch a newsletter. Call me old-school – my kid certainly does – but I wanted to double down on what I enjoy doing most in life: writing about the stuff that makes me happy. That’s it.

Hopefully, I’ll connect with some old friends, make some new ones, and encourage my own inner creator along the way. The idea isn’t necessarily to supplant or replace the other places I currently write. In fact, I don’t even have a “goal” for this place necessarily in mind. Instead, I want to provide my brain a canvas where I can create without having to worry about staying on top of trends, chasing an algorithm, or following an editorial calendar.

What might you see here?

Well, that’s easy. You’ll find full-length reviews for books and music I didn’t want to publish somewhere else. You’ll find the sort of micro reviews I typically write on my bookish Instagram – for both books and music. If I’m feeling nice, I might serve up some thoughts on marketing, Star Trek, pop culture, and politics. Ultimately, I’m going to write about what makes me happy, and I hope to find people who like those same things, too.

Thanks for reading. I hope you stick around.
